The mascot

Meet Gary.

Gary is a bedsheet ghost in flip-flops. He has sunglasses, a surfboard, and absolutely no idea he's at a horror festival.

Gary is the festival's one deliberate piece of cheer. The rest of the festival is fire, lantern light, sideshow performers, and a sinister MC who takes his job very seriously. Gary doesn't take anything seriously. That contrast IS the brand.

He surfs. He owns one pair of thongs. He thinks he's on holiday. He is, structurally speaking, the friendliest thing about this festival.

What Gary Thinks the Festival Is

Beach party.

It is not a beach party.

Where You'll See Him

  • Hanging around the vendor market in some form or another
  • On the festival's Instagram, mostly looking the wrong way
  • On t-shirts, stickers, posters, plush merch (eventually)
  • Probably trying to surf the Mooloolaba break
  • Wherever the trouble is, although he hasn't worked that out yet

How Many Garys Have There Been?

Officially: one Gary. He's been around for as long as there's been a Sunshine Coast. He'll be at every Sunshine Ghost Festival, every year, in some form. Don't worry about it.
